New Solution for Parkinsonism in the Hospital of Universitas Brawijaya: Hydrogen Nanobubble Injection Therapy
On Monday, February 12, 2024, the Clinical Trial Research Team for Nano Hydrogen Bubble Infusion Therapy in Parkinsonism held a meeting at the RAHO Club, Elpico Mall no. 23, Villa Puncak Tidar, Dau, Malang from 09.30 to 12.00 WIB. This research is a collaboration between several parties, including Indonesian Molecular Institute (IMI), RAHO Club (Reverse Aging and Homeostasis Club), and RSUB (The Hospital of Universitas Brawijaya). The meeting was attended by Prof. Sutiman Bambang Sumitro, SU., D.Sc. and Prof. Dr. Aulanni’am, drh., DES. as advisors from IMI, Prof. Akhmad Sabarudin, M.Sc, Dr.Sc as the chairman of IMI, Mr. Kan Eddy as the chairman of RAHO Club, Dr. dr. Viera Wardhani, M.Kes as the director of RSUB, as well as several other invitees including senior doctor researchers from IMI, IMI team, RAHO team, and of course, Parkinsonism researchers from RSUB such as dr. Siti Nurlaela, Sp. S, dr. Aris Widayati, Sp. S, dr. Novita Titis, Sp. S, and dr. An Nisaa Novrizka, Sp. N, as well as Dr. dr. Emmy Endang, Sp.S, CIPS from IMI, with research expert partner dr. Eko Arisetijono, Sp. S (K).
During this meeting, several key points were presented regarding the planned research on infusion therapy for Parkinsonism using nano hydrogen bubbles. Parkinsonism is characterized by progressive degeneration of nerve cells. This degeneration is caused by high accumulation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), leading to apoptosis of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, resulting in decreased dopamine production. In Parkinsonism, the decline in motor function can affect the patient's psychological and cognitive conditions, social relationships, and life motivation, leading to a decrease in their quality of life. Previously, antioxidant therapy such as H2, O2, H2O2 has been used as complementary therapy for Parkinsonism in several studies conducted by Ohta et al. (2007), Fujita et al. (2009), and Yoritaka et al. (2013). In some studies, such as those conducted by Gerich et al. (2009) and Kamler & Segal (2003), it has been revealed that in low concentrations, H2O2 can act as an antioxidant and signaling regulator in metabolism.
Currently, IMI and RAHO Club are collaborating with RSUB to conduct innovative research to address Parkinsonism using a solution of nano hydrogen bubble infusion. Using nano bubble technology, hydrogen will remain stable in bubble form, making it effective as a complementary therapy. Nano hydrogen bubble infusion also has the potential to be used as a targeted drug delivery method.
The aim of this research is to evaluate the effect of complementary therapy with nano hydrogen bubble infusion on the quality of life of Parkinsonism patients. The expected benefits of this research activity are that it can become a reference source for further research regarding the management of Parkinsonism, increase knowledge about complementary therapies for Parkinsonism, and improve the quality of life of Parkinsonism patients. It is hoped that in the future this hydrogen nanobubble infusion therapy can be an effective, cheap and safe solution to treat cases of Parkinsonism in Indonesia.
